Quercus Petraea – Sessile Oak

Also known as the Durmast Oak, deciduous,  native and very long lived tree that is valuable for timber and suitable in damper districts or soils. Height to more than 30m (100ft) but can grow taller. Flowers in May, acorns are sessile (directly attached / no stem) , hence the alternative name that separates it from the more well known native Quercus Robur or English (Pedunculate) Oak.

Tall, straight, elegant tree for woodlands and hedgerows. Prefers moist conditions with rapid early growth.

The planting season for bare-rooted trees and shrubs is generally between the months of November – March
