Cherry Vega

The Vega dessert cherry produces very large, heart-shaped cherries. They feature glossy, golden-yellow skin heavily flushed with a bright red or carmine blush. The pale, light-coloured inner flesh is incredibly sweet, succulent, and juicy.

Many growers note that because of the fruit’s large size or lighter golden base colour, birds tend to leave them alone slightly more than traditional dark red cherries—though netting is still recommended as they ripen.

It is not self-fertile (self-sterile) and belongs to Pollination Group D. It needs to be planted near compatible partners that bloom at the same time to produce fruit, such as Lapins Cherokee, Stella or Sweetheart.

The fruit ripens and is ready for picking from mid to late July.
