Description
Prunus ‘Pink Parasol’ (syn. Prunus ‘Hanagasa’ or Matsumae-hanagasa) is a graceful, medium, spreading, deciduous ornamental cherry tree with double, pale pink flowers on long stems hanging below the branches in mid- to late spring. The leaves turn a spectacular burnt orange in autumn.
Large, pale pink double blossoms (25 to 50 petals) with distinctive bright-green, leafy carpels in the center. The flower clusters dangle from unusually long stems that hang below the branches like a parasol, in mid to late spring (typically April).
Young leaves emerge in a striking dark copper-bronze color, mature to green through the summer, and transition to vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and burnt orange in autumn.
Features an open, broad, and graceful spreading habit. It reaches roughly 4 to 6 meters (around 13 to 20 feet) in height and spread after 10 to 20 years.
Developed in the 1960s by Japanese cherry enthusiast Masatoshi Asari on the northern island of Hokkaido as part of the Matsumae group.

Best performance in full sun.

Tolerates most well-drained soil types, including chalk, clay, loam, and sand, across neutral, acid, or alkaline pH levels.

Hardy, withstands severe UK winters.
