Prunus Subhirtella Autumnalis Rosea – Winter flowering cherry – A small deciduous tree of bushy spreading habit. Semi-double blush pink flowers open intermittently between late autumn and early spring. Valued for blooming during the colder months when other trees are dormant.

Forms a graceful, open, spreading, or rounded bushy tree, typically reaching a height and spread of about 4m × 3m to 4m × 4m after 10 years (eventually up to 7m).

Produces delicate, semi-double flowers (approx. 1.5 cm across) that open in flushes and intermittent bursts during mild weather from late autumn through winter to early spring (November to March).

Prunus × subhirtella ‘Autumnalis Rosea‘ features pale pink semi-double flowers.

Ovate, sharply-toothed green leaves emerge bronze-tinted in spring, mature to rich green in summer, and turn vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and russet-red before dropping.

Small, pea-sized fruit follows in summer and is popular with birds and wildlife.

Best grown in full sun to maximize the winter/spring flower display and autumn leaf color, though it tolerates light partial shade.

Thrives in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil. It is widely tolerant of most soil types, including chalk, clay, loam, and sand (acid, alkaline, or neutral).

Hardy, resilient to urban pollution, and generally low-maintenance with good disease resistance.

Ideal as a specimen tree in small gardens, urban courtyards, Japanese-style gardens, or street planting where its winter blooms can be easily admired.
