Description
Prunus ‘Fragrant Cloud’ (also known as Prunus serrulata or Prunus ‘Shizuka‘) is a vigorous, vase shaped deciduous ornamental cherry tree celebrated for having one of the strongest and sweetest fragrances among Japanese flowering cherries.
Huge, dense clusters of large, semi-double white flowers appear in late April to May. They gradually transition to a pale or soft pink as they age and emit a rich, sweet scent.
Young leaves emerge with a distinct bronze or coppery tint in spring, mature to a fresh mid-to-dark green through summer, and turn vibrant shades of orange, gold, and fiery red in autumn.
Features an upright, spreading, and slightly ascending habit. It typically reaches an approximate height and spread of 5 to 8 meters (up to 10–12 meters over a long maturity period), making it an ideal specimen tree for medium to large gardens.
Best grown in full sun in a sheltered spot to protect delicate spring buds from late frosts.

Thrives in moist, well-drained fertile soils, and is generally tolerant of most common soil types including clay, loam, and chalk/lime.
