Also known as English or common oak, a deciduous, native and very long lived tree that is valuable for timber, developing a broad head of rugged branches as it matures. Height to more than 30m (100ft). Flowers in May, acorns are on long stalks or peduncules, hence the alternative name that separates it from the lesser known native Quercus Petrea or Sessile Oak.

Extensive woodland tree suited to medium-heavy fertile land. Characteristic hedgerow tree.
